Samsung has already launched the
Galaxy S7 and S7 edge at the unpacked event couple of weeks ago, now that the
2016 flagships are out we can safely start our discussion about the upcoming
Galaxy S8 and S8 edge smartphones which will be even more powerful and mighty.
Yes, The S7 and S7 edge are one of the most powerful smartphones in today’s
world but gives the fact that technology gets innovated daily its quite obvious
that the S8 and S8 edge will be powerful than ever. Yes, it tab bit too soon to
start our discussion about the Galaxy S8 and S8 edge, but doesn’t leave the
fact that there aren’t any reports and rumors, yes we do hear some details
every now and then on the same basis. So let’s get started with discussing
department wise.
 |
| Samsung Galaxy S8 |
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge Design/Concept Render :
Samsung’s S
series has always been the compact sized beats that sports smaller display
sizes yet maintaining the power in the house. The design keeps getting evolved
with each S series phone Samsung launches, we all know for the fact that S6 is
a might design change over the cheap plastic build of the S5. The Galaxy S7 we
all must agree that it looks some-what similar to S6 on some levels and we
definitely are sure that Samsung is surely cooking something that might be
beyond the reach of the previous generation S series smartphones. Though we
keep saying that Samsung will undergo design changes, the company will retain
the compact sized, 5.1 or 5.2-inches size display which is one of the most
wonderful thing to happen for any flagship smartphones, compact is the new sexy
is the saying that purely justifies Samsung’s S series.
We are even assuming the Galaxy
S8 and S8 edge smartphones will feature the USB Type-C port which went missing
on the S7 duo this year and by then USB Type-C will a thing, so Smart Samsung
So Smart. The Curved build found on the S6 and S7 duo will also be present on
the S8 and S8 edge which gives good grip and in hand feel, yes we do agree the
S6 was slippery but take a look at the S7 which is less slippery and we are
betting our stakes on that it will give good grip and feel in Hands. Perks of
having a curved display and build is always a welcome addition on the S8 and S8
edge smartphones. The home button will be retained on the S8 and S8 edge as
well that will also function as a Fingerprint sensor and like always it should
be blazing fast, well isn’t it obvious?. This time around Camera bump will be
completely embedded in the rear panel of the smartphones and the rear camera
will be accompanied with Dual-Tone LED flash, and Samsung branding on the rear
side. On whole the build quality will be mighty stronger, innovative and
incredibly beautiful for any flagship that will launch in 2017.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge Display :
4K display on a smartphone
is still not a main stream thing, we barely have a popular smartphone brand
name with a 4K display-Sony Xperia X5 premium and some unknown or not so
familiar brand names do have. We are yet to have proper content that can take
advantage of the whopping 4K display and without proper content it’s just plain
pointless to have it on board. 2016 should be a deciding year for Samsung to
choose the display panel that will be used on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8
edge. If I were to guess, I’d rather pick a 4K display which is kind of obvious
given that we are already seeing the trend of 4K from all the main stream
content providers and given that AMOLED
displays are the most beautiful display and imagine how incredible they look with
a 4K panel over it.
 |
| Galaxy S8 Edge |
Not that this isn’t obvious, we
all anticipated that Samsung will be using the 3D touch on the S7 and S7 edge
smartphones but we were wrong, Samsung has left behind the 3D touch feature.
But don’t you worry, Samsung will surely bring it on with the S8 and the S8
Edge smartphones, what basically 3D is that is, it a 3 level pressure sensitive
touch-touch tap, hold which is on some levels similar to that we have seen on
the Apple’s iPhone 6s and the 6s plus smartphones. The always on glance display
feature which was found on the recently launched S7 and S7 edge will remain
even on the S8 and S8 edge. Other than the 3D touch, Always-on display features
we can new level protection for the smartphones, probably Corning might come up
with the next level Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top and it should be even
more powerful than the Gorilla Glass 4.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge Processor and Ram :
The Samsung Galaxy
S8 and S8 edge smartphones will be powered by Samsung’s very own Exynos chipset
just like this year where the S7 and S7 edge smartphones that were powered by
the Exynos 8890 chipset that were introduced earlier this year and an another
variant that is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820Soc but that is limited to
USA and other markets nearby, while the Asian markets will get the Exynos
variant. We expect the same trend to happen even in 2017 with the S8 and S8
edge phones, the Exynos chipset will most probably designed by December 2016
and will enter the production from then and now that MediaTek has introduced
the Deca-Core 10-core chipset, Samsung will try their luck with the Deca-Core
based Exynos chipset and probably keep it under clocked to keep it in check
with the heating issues. On the other hand, Qualcomm has just started rolling
out the Snapdragon 820Soc with just 4-cores custom designed by Qualcomm and is
the first 14mm chipset and own Adreno 530 GPU for graphical requirements. So
with the Qualcomm Snapdragon variant, the company might come up with new
chipset though we don’t even have a clue about the name, nor the details about
the chipset we will surely have a Snapdragon variant with Adreno GPU.
Coming to the Ram, the S7 and S7
Edge have 4GB of LPDDR4 Ram on board and now that we have already seen a
smartphone with 6GB of Ram-The Vivo Xplay 5 we might also see similar 6GB of
Ram or a massive 12GB of Ram that already in production if the recent reports
and rumors are to be believed. Imagine a smartphone with 12GB of Ram? Before
getting excited about it do ask yourself that do we really need that amount of
Ram? Well Samsung thinks so. So it will either be 6GB of custom Samsung’s Ram
or 12GB Ram that is already in production. The internal memory will be
32/64/128 and a 256GB variant mostly we might not see a basic 32GB Ram variant
and the storage options start with 64GB. We might also see a MicroSD card slot
similar to the S7 and S7 edge smartphones this year, though they are Hybrid we
still have an option for it. Yeah, we all know that each variant will be priced
differently and who knows Samsung might surprise us by launching a phone with
512GB internal storage if it is possible by any means.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge Camera :
Though Samsung has cut down
the megapixel count on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge from a big 16-megapixel to
12-megapixel Dual lens shooter on the S7. It is being speculated that Samsung
will use a whopping 30-megapixel autofocus primary camera and it is indeed the
first smartphone after the Lumia 1020(41-megapixel) to feature such a big
camera sensor and coming to the sensor part, we are placing our bets on Sony
camera sensor but there is also a possibility that company might use its own
camera sensor with ultra-wide angle camera sensor with Optical stabilization
that will eliminate the shakiness in the videos and images captured instantly,
Laser autofocus, PDAF(phase detection autofocus), f/1.8 aperture, given the
fact that Samsung camera have always something beyond the reach we can expect
the same thing to repeat with Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge. HDR mode, and typical
Samsung shooting modes with new age live filters and many more. When we talk
about the front camera, we have a 9-megapixel shooter with new selfie mode for
selfies and video chats, it is safe to expect a selfie flash for better
low-light captures, and we are expecting a new age facial recognition that can
detect your face for taking selfies instantly. So the camera department is a
huge improvement over this year’s Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 edge. Let’s hope we
will see a path breaking camera sensor and performance.
Fingerprint Sensor, Iris Eye Scanner :
Fingerprint sensors are
nothing new we have been seeing the trend of Fingerprints even on budget
segment smartphones as well so Samsung must be observing this and will most
probably come up with something that will function beyond just a Fingerprint
sensor, Samsung will add new age features like 10 fingerprint register option,
lock apps individually, take pictures and many more. Also the fingerprint will
also be useful for the Samsung Pay which is next big thing giving a tough
competition to Apple Pay and Google’s pay. The fingerprint sensor needs to be
something beyond of just being a fingerprint sensor to be a stand out. An Iris
eye scanner is also a possible addition along with Fingerprint sensor, the iris
eye scanner will detect your eye and unlock the phone automatically though this
feature might a possibility but we still need to be sure about that.
Connectivity feature :
Connectivity features include 5G which should
be a thing in 2017, already the work for that same has started, Bluetooth 5.0
which is a significant update from 4.1 which is currently being used, Dual SIM
and both will support 5G, Dual MicroSD card slot for memory expansion, Wi-Fi
802.11 ac, and many other connectivity features on board.
